Celebrate Litha with these Book of Shadow pages. The pages include facts about the Sabbat, a list of ways to celebrate, and an incantation to recite during your Litha ritual. The incantation appears in a window so the texture of the spell page behind it shows through. The pages have been covered in sunflowers and roses. Three out of the four double sided pages have been filled with facts, pictures and herbs. The last page is blank so you can add your own art and words to your Litha ritual.
The paintings included on the pages are:
Nude in Dappled Sunlight by Frederick C Frieseke
The Roman Bath by Emmanuel Oberhausen
Pollard Willows and Setting Sun - Vincent van Gogh
FACTS ABOUT LITHA
All facts and data have been taken from books by Laurie Cabot, Silver Raven Wolf and Raven Gramassi
Date: June 20th, 21st, 22nd or 23rd. When the sun is 1 degree in Cancer.
Solar Alignment: The first day of summer occurs when the sun passes into Cancer and reaches its north western point in the sky. It is the longest day and shortest night of the year. In the Southern Hemisphere, the Winter and Summer Solstices are reversed.
Planetary Ruler: Moon.
Age of Holiday: 10,000 years old.
Meaning: Litha means, “moon”.
Colors: Yellow, gold and green.
Symbolism: Bonfires, sun wheel, crown of roses.
Plants and Herbs: Sunflower, rose, lavender, rosemary, thyme.
Purpose
The power of the sun is at its peak but soon it will begin to wane. We celebrate the strength and energy this day holds and ask that the magic created today carry us through the dark half of the year.
Litha is a celebration of passion and success. During this time of year the goddess and sun god are in the heat of their union. Many ancient people believed that the “grand sexual union” of the goddess and god occurred in early May at Beltane. Since it was unlucky to compete with the deities, many couples delayed their weddings until June. To this day, June is still a traditional month for pagan handfastings.
Mounted Pages
These double sided Parchment Paper pages have been mounted onto a three hole punched backing. They are ready to be added to your Adjustable Book of Shadows. I invented them because I wanted scrapbook pages free from plastic sheet protectors. The pages are all 8 ½ by 11 inches. The 3 holes have been punched into an extra ½ inch strip on the side of the page. They make a wonderful crisp sound as you turn the pages. The pages are made of brand new Ivory Parchment Paper but look aged. All mounted page come with frayed edges and are stained with coffee, paint and charcoal. Your Book of Shadows will look like an old family heirloom.
